Gift of Life
The Committee of the SGC would like to introduce you to Master CHEN Yong Hao.
This little guy is from the Henan region of China and at birth he was sadly diagnosed with a serious heart condition that will limit his growth and will surely shorten his life. He is now almost 2.5 years old and comes from a extremely poor farming family. The family and relatives have spent their life saving keeping him alive.
At the 2007 Annual General Meeting, the 2008 Committee of the SGC were given the responsibility to working with the Shanghai Rotary Club's medical team to locate a child who is in desperate need of a Heart Operation. This has been completed and during April 2008, members of the SGC committee will accompany Master Chen with his family to the Shanghai Chest Hospital for his major operation.
All going well, we will be reporting to you within a month that we have given this child a fresh start in life and in fact, have SAVED his life. This is a serious operation and post care is critical. We will assist the child and family through this ordeal in conjunction with Shanghai Rotary. The selection process was involved and Master Chen had to receive "chops" (approvals) from his village committee, his province local Government office and then the Shanghai Chest Hospital. This has been completed and SGC have the records on file. The SGC are donating Rmb25,000 to complete this task

Gift of Hope
The Hope School located in Tianma Town is for students from grade 1-9 for children not from Shanghai Province. Most are from the families of migrant workers. The school has 500 children from very low income families. The staff consists of 18 teachers. Lunches as well as education are provided daily. This is NOT a state supported school. Therefore all funds must come from enrollment or charity.
This May, the Hope School will submit a list of graduating 9th graders that qualify to go to High School. SGC will meet the children and select for their education at Tianma Hope High School.This is a different school than Hope School for grades 1-9. In August, payment will be made directly to the school. September school begins. SGC will monitor their progress. Upon graduation, SGC will select students that are eligible to attend Shanghai Science & Technology School. After 2 years of College, members of SGC can employ the students as interns in their company.
In May, 47 kids will graduate, the top students as recommended by their teachers will stay in school. The student will start in September and have Hope for a better life.
