Membership
The 2007 SGC committee has found it necessary to cap membership at the current level of ~135 local members and 25 “overseas” members (who play occasionally through the year when they visit Shanghai).
At this level of numbers we are just able to secure sufficient tee times each week at the various greater Shanghai golf courses to meet demand.
SGC continues to receive applications to join the club. For such applicants please read the following information:
- As many of our members are ‘transient” and subject to being relocated by their companies, vacancies do occur on a regular basis.
- The committee keeps a “waiting list” of applicants that will be advised when vacancies occur.
- This waiting list is reviewed 3 or 4 times a year.
- New members are not accepted during the period August – December inclusive, as this leads to problems with Dues paid for a short year!
- Memberships are generally renewed during the January – end March period.
- Players wishing to join SGC can still sign up to play as guests on the regular Saturday events. If our normal 56 slots are not filled, we will take guests on an ad hoc basis. SGC MEMBERS take priority.
- Guests are not eligible to contest the prizes on offer and do not receive the free shirt / cap issued each year. These may however be purchased, subject to availability.
- Once accepted as an SGC member, the new member will have to play 5 x SGC games to establish an SGC handicap, only after these 5 cards are submitted is the new member eligible to contest for prizes. (Committee may decide to accept duly countersigned scorecards from non SGC events to establish an SGC handicap, particularly if prospective new member already has an official golf club handicap. 5 card minimum is still required)
- To sign up for an event, guests can check the schedule of events on the website www.shanghaigolfersclub.com and submit an e mail to sgcbooking@yahoo.com .
- Guests will pay the same rate as members at any course and be able to use the free bus provided by the Big Bamboo sports bar. When submitting a request to play, guests need to specify the date they wish to play, an indication of their handicap (for “grouping” purposes) and whether they will use the bus or not.
