Cross Straights Challenge

As the 2008 Summer unfolds, our numbers keep growing and growing. Membership is strong and your committee have decided to cap the membership once again as the golf courses simply cant handle our numbers. Obviously, as our members depart we will let now applicants in. Its great to see the new web site being used, especially the Photos section and the EVENTS sign up section. Just a short word on the Photos section if I may. If you hit the PHOTOS Tab you will be taken to the Photos section but did you know that if you hit the yellow writing below the featured photos, you will be taken to over 2000 SGC photos over 3 pages.
If you have photos, please send them to Peter Grant pgrant@126.com
When you sign up each week, please enter your information once. If you need to cancel, please go back into the EVENTs sign up section and cancel your prior booking. If you need to cancel after the weekly Tee Off e mail goes out, YOU MUST e mail sgcbooking@yahoo.com and tell the committee. If you have to bail out on the Saturday morning, its simply too late and a cancellation fee will be charged. The fact is that your committee has to wear the flack from the golf club management when we cancel at the last moment.

We have had a great year so far with a bundle of events - The next event is the big one, the SGC 2008 Ryder Cup. The nominations are in, the Captains have the 2 lists, Tianma golf club is booked for the Friday the 5th and the Saturday the 6th of September. Even if you are not selected / playing in the Ryder Cup, please get involved and support the players. Come on out on the Friday and have lunch or later for a beer on the balcony to watch the players come in. We will have a normal SGC event on the Saturday the 6th so if your not in the Ryder Cup, you can still sign up and play. Do the right thing by the club and stay for the Saturday night dinner.
There will be a charge for the dinner BBQ and as usual, we will all have a lot of fun.

July 26th at Tianma

Our event at Tianma on 26th, saw a few of our long lost friends who frequent Shanghai Links on a regular basis, return to the SGC fold to take part in a little in house game aptly called the Cross Pu Challenge. 8 of Links boys took on 8 of SGC Tianma boys. Word has it that the Tianma lads won by a whisker, but it's only half time - the return match will be at Links shortly.

During our regular game that day, Stew Beck came in best Gross with a 75 & Mark Wood best Nett with 68.

Shanghai Links 2nd August

The day out at Links was wonderful with a solid turn out. A big thank you goes to the Links management for their hospitality and their management of the course in general. The heat took its toll unfortunately, and a few of us a we came into that danger time zone , 2.30pm. (Did you know that this is the hottest time of the day during the Shanghai summer months) Regardless, everyone had a great time.
